In search of visual comfort
Nina Masó, indoor collection editor of Sant&Cole talks to us about the
importance of good lighting for a contract space and how Santa&Cole looks
first and foremost for “visual comfort”.
When you eat or sleep outside your home you
need the company that good lighting provides.
You’ll be more comfortable and you’ll
see the people around you, even more beautiful.
Without good lighting you can feel lonely,
in poor company or you can see people
as distant characters, instead of friendly and
pleasant. That’s why our goal in Santa&Cole
is to make products and create projects that
help to generate pleasant and comfortable
settings for the user.
Currently, visual comfort has extended to all
public and private spaces. Increasingly this
concept has left the home and has reached
hotels, restaurants, bars, offices, airports,
etc. When we started the company in 1985,
lighting was important for providing atmospheres
in bars and clubs. We were involved in
the revolution of the design in that bars and
clubs in Barcelona. With the new technologies

‘Comfort’ needs to be understood as a word

Light, an essential element in interior design
In recent years, lighting has becoming almost,
if not the most important, a project of interior
design. There is more sensitivity with light and
demand is focused on having good lighting
in all corners of an interior setting. We could
say that the client is more sensitive and knows
how to value the importance of his environment.
As editors, our job is to conceptualize what
type of product our client may need.
And in that search, in order to detect the
product that we lack our catalogue needs to
complement the product offering. After the
selection by the editorial team, all the proposals
go through an Editorial Committee
composed of several relevant people in the
Over the years we have developed products
specially designed for contract areas: the
Moare family, the Stadium, the Nimba or the
Cirio. The last one is one of my favorites, because
it is especially magical, inspired by mosque
lamps but updated with LED technology
and porcelain screens from an artisanal production.
The result is a system that allows the
creation of lamps in diverse formats, circles,
lines, ovals or chandelier; creating atmospheres
with good warm light, which excites you
just to see it.
