Air, land, sea and fire
Galicia in its purest form can be experienced in the Costa da Morte parador in Muxía. This is an interior design project

A few kilometers from Cape Fisterra is the
Parador de Costa da Morte, on a 128,000 m²
plot of land on Lourido Beach, in Muxía. Its
architecture has been designed so as to enjoy
the environment from all its rooms, and was
originally conceived by the Galician architect
Alfonso Penela, who devised a building on the
hillside terraces with a very special focus on
caring for the environment and respecting
the landscape. Its shape in the form of steps
adapts to the unevenness of the terrain, integrating
it - and burying it - in the terrain.
Organic decor
63 rooms with ocean views make up the hotel,
whose decoration has been inspired by organic
shapes, stones and vegetation. The bosses
at Grupo Ramón García y Sutega affirm that
“we have sought to achieve the perfect integration
between the past and the present; between
the quality of tourism and the enjoyment
of the natural spaces that the Costa da Morte
offers. Promoting the knowledge of the history
of the place, its legends and myths and being
able to soak the guests in the culture of the
place”.
In the center of the lobby we find a seat that
evokes the Stone of Abalar de Muxía. And
in the rooms, you can see elements that will
remind us of the typical Galician landscape:
the headboards of the beds inspired by beach
plants, with details simulating the lichens on
the rocks; the bedside tables are tree trunks,
and the bathtub separator simulates a long
slope covered in yellow flowers, toxo, a native
plant of the area. In the restaurant, elements
have been used that recall the typical Galician
landscape, using leaf-shaped dividers that take
us into a forest; or some textile lighting panels
that refer to boats on a jetty.
Project “Natura”
The interior designers have created what they
call the “Natura” project. This is how they
explain it: “we wanted to breathe in the environment,
feel nature, the aroma of the sea
and to live its history. The different natural
and cultural concepts of the local geography
have been captured, especially Muxía, based
on what each room evokes and the sensations
it transmits”. That is why each room has been
baptized with the name of a place from the
area, whose location and legend are collected
on a nautical chart.
that has been developed by the Grupo Ramón García y Sutega.
