Solar protection devices for a more sustainable building
Windows are one of the points in a building where energy transmittance index is highest. Solar protection
devices are capable of regulating the energy impact, assuming energy savings for heating or cooling a home
up to 40%.
From the Textile Technological Institute (Aitex) it is has been proposed,
how on the one hand, solar protection devices for glazing
can improve and optimize comfort and energy efficiency; and on
the other hand, what are the main parameters at the point of construction
for obtaining high-performance and improved devices. All
of this has been set out by demonstrating a high degree of sustainability,
by employing single-material products or devices, free of
chemical finishes, in order to improve their ‘post-consumer’ processes,
but without abandoning both thermal and visual protection
properties.
The EFITERM project focuses on the experimental development
of high-performance solar protection devices, examining the production
and control of the variables that influence these protection
elements. Other variables are the colour of the device, the material
used, the density of the material, the structure of the fabric; as well
as its production in several layers, the production technology, the
finishing of the fabric and its final application, whether internal or
external, and its combination with the window glazing.
An advisory guide for companies has been prepared that can be
consulted by contacting Francisco Rico regarding product development
(frico@aitex.es); or with Maria Cairols (mcairols@aitex.
