The girl from Ipanema
“Look at such a beautiful thing, so graceful. (…)” The mythical song by Vinícius de Moraes could define the interior
design of the Bossa Nossa restaurant in Madrid. A project by the Triscaideca studio that relies on colour and the
eclecticism of textures to generate an environment with the good vibes of a Bossa Nova.

The striking fuchsia pink of this place invites
you to enter from the street, attracting
users like a lighthouse on the high seas. “The
starting point of the project is colour, with a
very radical and risky commitment to pink”,
explains Gonzalo Álvarez, interior designer
co-founder at Triscaideca. Inside, the strength
of this ‘pink’ universe is counteracted by
a very elegant English green that balances
the image of the space. Both colours form
the backbone of the premises, accompanied
by geometry, to generate the different environments.
“The Brazilian owners wanted
to make a restaurant that would function
as their own home, welcoming and open to
friends.” For this, they designed a bar counter
as if it were in their living room, integrated
into the premises and at two heights,
so that diners can be received on the stools,
chatting while preparing dinner. “The idea
was to make users feel comfortable, as if they
were invited to an evening with friends.” The
height of the tables is another of the strengths
of the interior design project, combining
high and low to provide dynamism. The mixture
of textures contributes to breaking the
monotony of this type of space, with a daring
combination of wood, ceramic, exposed brick
and iron. “We are very fond of eclecticism in
textures, as long as the project allows it, as is
the case,” says Gonzalo, “it brings richness to
the final result.” The kitchen is differentiated
by the flooring, of hydraulic tile in two colours
that also appears in the bathroom, but
with the tones reversed. And this bathroom
is the favourite corner of Triscaideca interior
designers. “Restoration bathrooms are our
weakness,” explains Lucía M. Abad, interior
designer and co-founder of the studio. “We
like to take these spaces out of context and
turn them into the final surprise of the place,
into something you don’t expect.” Bossa
Nossa’s bathroom is like a tea room, with a
predominance of English green and an art
deco style enhanced by decorative light fixtures.
As Gonzalo Álvarez defines it: “we have
designed a cosy and fun restaurant, with all
kinds of details to be discovered”.
