43 There was a time when Madrid was a stately city and, the place
that every intellectual, the bourgeoisie and artists of the highest level
wanted to go. And they weren’t staying just anywhere. They stayed in
the great hotels of the early twentieth century: The Palace and the Ritz.
Since then, only one other Grand Hotel had been opened in the capital,
this was the Villamagna, in the 70s. However, the city lacked a new

Grand Luxury hotel that stood out on the basis of its heritage value.
The Madrid Four Seasons Hotel makes up for this scarcity. The pharaonic
project was inaugurated through a pandemic and before the end of the
fateful year of 2020, with the aim of becoming “the flagship of a new
Madrid”, as the architect responsible for the project, Carlos Lamela, says.
In the architectural project, the premise was to maintain both the existing
facades, as well as all the interior elements of patrimonial value or
uniqueness -skylights, wooden carpentry, fireplaces, locksmiths ... - while
